Oh Piggy Piggy

July 29th, 2009 by karynlewis

More pig sketching. Still trying out new techniques. This one is supposed to be more colored pencil inspired. It’s hard to break away from the smooth digital style I’ve been doing for years and just start scribbling again.sketch-pig-072909

I love this technique, Karyn! It looks like pastels to me, and has such a lively quality. If you hadn’t admitted it, I’d have said it was traditional media. I can see a kids’ book in this style, easily. :D

Hi Karen, I saw your post on the SCBWI Indiana listserv and am glad I checked out your illustrations – what an exuberant piggie! Love the texture. I work all digital too and try to make it look like traditional mediums.
Have you heard about the SCBWI Picture Book Conference coming up Nov 7 in Indy? We’ll have an editor and art director there from Simon & Schuster to give manuscript and portfolio critiques and to speak. I just wanted to mention it now so you have time to get your portfolio all ready with your new style if you want to include it. I hope you can come!
