…in which I kill my poor drawing…

Well…
I definitely am rusty with traditional media. I started the whole thing off in watercolor, overworked it, blotted it all up and then realized that the paper was too thrashed and I’d have to use colored pencils, and ink, which I prefer anyway…
The end result looks slightly better in person (the scanner picked up all my pencil lines and went overboard on the texture), and the colors are nicer. Even though I’m not pleased with the outcome, I’m happy with the experiment. I guess I’ll have to do a few more before I feel I’m back up to my personal perfectionist standards.

For many reasons I’ve decided that I need to start doing more traditional art again. I thought it might be fun for you guys to follow along as I try and relearn traditional techniques I haven’t used in many, many years. Like watercolors for example.
I did this drawing of an American Robin drawing (5×7 in) on Watercolor paper this afternoon, and I’d like to lay in some washes of color. Nothing hardcore, just tint it a bit. And I’m terrified! I haven’t used watercolors in more than 20 years it seems like. At one time I was fairly proficient. I hope it comes back to me quickly. However, in case I totally mess up, I’ve scanned in the drawing for Photoshop coloring later.
Here’s the pencils. I’ll post the aftermath of my colors later.

(hey, at least I remembered to tape off my edges! lol)

In between art projects I’ve been busy exploring more jewelry. I’m off to a conference this weekend and I needed something to go with my new purplish top, and I had this strand of pretty agate that was dyed in several different pastel colors. I combined it with gold colored chain and copper wire that’s permanently colored gold (according to its packaging). I like how it turned out, but it’s very heavy.

I am starting to enjoy taking pictures of the jewelry as well, so here’s a few more views.
